Responsible Young Leaders Organization was established in the year 2018. RYLO is a multi-partial, non-partisan youth organization composed of different young leaders of Central Mindanao operating within Cotabato City. It envisions the youth of Central Mindanao to become proactive young leaders addressing social issues by upholding the spirit of collective leadership. It aims to bring together empowered youth leaders that foster solidarity, mutual respect, and inclusivity to address social issues that affect the growth of the youth. Social issues are one of the biggest problems that many people face, and their effect on society can be dreadful.

Social issues have adverse effects on our society, especially among youth, and they might affect their growth and development, specifically mental, physical, emotional, and social. These factors also contribute to widespread social unhappiness, as well as sorrow and misery. Overall, these do not assist in resolving any problem but instead generate a significant problem that is detrimental to society. Children’s violence, in all forms, including online bullying or cyberbullying, has catastrophic consequences for young people’s physical and emotional well-being. This can leave emotional and psychological scars, as well as causing bodily harm. It is complicated because children are vulnerable and have easy internet access, making them easy targets for online violence. Peer pressure, on the other hand, Peer pressure can steer youth in the wrong direction. It may lead them to experiment with alcohol or drugs, skip school, or participate in other risky actions that endanger their health. Furthermore, Academic stress has various effects on the youth, such as insufficient sleep that might lead to serious health risks, and academic stress enhances a young person’s likelihood of acquiring preventable physical health problems later in life.
RYLO’s objective is to spread awareness among youth on tackling this kind of problem, and one of their methods is to use Nonviolent Communication. Nonviolent Communication (NVC) has been described as a compassionate language, a social change instrument, and a spiritual practice. NVC provides us with the tools and awareness to recognize what triggers us, take responsibility for our reactions, and improve our connections with ourselves and others, allowing us to change our habitual responses to life. In the end, it necessitates a profound shift in our perspective on life and meaning. NVC is founded on the following core principle: All human activities are motivated by wants, and knowing and acknowledging these needs can help build a shared foundation for connection, cooperation, and, more broadly, peace.
In conclusion, social issues are one of the most pressing concerns for many individuals, and their impact on society can be terrible. RYLO is mainly concerned with social issues that affect youth, such as violence, peer pressure, and academic stress. Social issues have negative consequences for our society, particularly among youth, and they may have an impact on their mental, physical, emotional, and social development. These variables also lead to a general sense of social discontent, as well as sadness and despair. The goal of RYLO is to raise awareness among youth about how to deal with such issues, and one of their approaches is to practice nonviolent communication.
